For 20 years i have been steering this good ship catharsis. it started out as three of us...it didnt work out. to me it was life itself. So since then i have been at the helm...alone. and that was OK. it really was. and yes there have been many many friends along the way that i could not have managed without....wouldn't have missed them for the world. but everything was in me in the end.... for better or for worse... and then same Sin D'rella... and it was the right time. i was looking for something. for someone.... she arrived and everything changed... Some of you have seen her perform live with me at the recent UK shows.... and her first recorded work is already out there.... she has performed on the new and improved version of "Rock of ages"...part of the "Gates of eternity" track from "All mine enemys whispers"... you can find it on the Projekt 2008 compilation CD... The full version will be released as part of the second editon of that album.....online very soon and on physical CD later in the year... For the first time since 1988 i have invited someone into all this... Sin D'rella is now one half of ATTRITION.... we are working together on everything... it is like starting again.... The first work we have written together is almost complete. We will post it up online very soon... |

Free at Last TV recently interviewed Martin and Sin for a documentary on Mary Ann Cotton to be aired on the UK's ITV3 in October as one of a series on female serial killers.... Talking about Martin's family connection to the arresting officer...and how the album was made...Sin gives her thoughts on Mary Ann Cotton's motives...
The documentary soundtrack will feature extracts from the album...
Dark Rose films are also talking with us about making a short film inspired by and featuring the music of "All mine enemys whispers"... With minimum dialog it will explore atmospheres very much in a german expressionist style... more on that soon...
Two Gods... The latest in the reissue series through the band's own Two Gods label are At the fiftieth gate (1988...and out now) and Smiling, at the Hypogonder club (1985...coming very very soon).
Both albums are totally remastered by Martin and are in re-designed artwork.
Ephemera
Mark Lomax created some excellent cover artwork for ATTRITION for most of the 90's... from a Tricky Business up to Etude.. He is still working as a fine artist and has a new exhibition of his work coming up soon... entitled Ephemera, after the CD he designed the cover for in 1994, the album will also be played during the exhibition....a multimedia experience... On from July 4th - September 7th at the Inchmore gallery , Inverness, Scotland.
Mark plans to do a similar show in the future using "all mine enemys whispers"

Mary Ann Cotton was possibly Britain's greatest female mass murderer. Poisoning upwards of 20 of her own children and partners with arsenic... She was arrested, tried and hanged in 1873. Martin Bowes is the descendant of the arresting officer....Police Sergeant Tom McCutcheon...
The album features the artwork of US artist Lauren E Simonutti and musical contributions from Ned Kirby of Stromkern, Erica Mulkey of Unwoman and Rasputina, Laurie Reade of High Blue Star and Pigface, Ute Mansell of Urban Sax and Sin D'rella of imprint. Mary Ann Cotton's party... Mary Ann Cotton's actual sewing box was given to Martin's ancestor Louise McCutcheon, after Mary's arrest.
It was handed down through the family and came into Martin's possession a few years ago. You can see this historic item with it's antique poison bottles, find out more about the story behind the album, and meet members of Attrition at a special release party to be held in May - in our hometown of Coventry, England. The curse of Mary Ann Cotton...!
Well maybe it's just a coincidence....but this album has had a whole string of upsets....
First Emilie Autumn breaking her violin strings in the middle of recording sessions..
Then aborted photo shoots when cameras mysteriously powered down...
and poison bottles got broken.
Then wrangles with our parent label over the cover design...and subsequent printer errors....
The album was originally scheduled for release this halloween....
It didn't happen...
I really had to reconsider this release...
The good news is that "All mine enemys whispers - The story of Mary Ann Cotton "
will now be coming out through our good friends at Projekt Records.
We are returning home to them after an 8 year break...
Expect a release date early next year...

Two releases that have appeared on time are the latest in our reissue series through our own Two Gods label..(through Voiceprint)... Etude and This Death House.. both have been totally remastered and feature complete cover redesigns...and are available through our merchandise pages

Back in the UK - the tour went very well, thanks to everyone who came out to see us and supported us - we have recorded and documented the shows for a forthcoming CD/DVD - we're now making plans for a lot of special events in 2007, including a short Euro tour in April....

Announcing a series of Collectors edition re-issues of many Attrition albums for this 25th anniversary year. Every album will include something special...something extra...
The first is Projekt records re-issue of a Tricky Business.
From 1991 this album includes the darkwave classic "a girl called harmony".
The album is available in the original artwork and now includes a bonus track in the long lost 12" club remix version of "Something in my Eye".
